Royston Tipping Competition
===========================

Anyone interested in joining a simple tipping competition which allows you to bet an any event that is available in a specified bookmakers. Rules will be :

1. Open to anyone who has registered with the website.

2. Monthly competition with a £10 a month entry fee per person.

3. Users get an imaginary bank of £100 a month to any place bets shown in agreed bookmaker.

4. Bets must be placed before the event has started. Any bets placed after the event has started or any cheating identified will result in automatic disqualification for that month. No questions asked.

5. All bets will be recorded and available for everyone to see on the website.

6. Any winning bets must be flagged so the administrators ( thats me ) can check everything is OK with the bet and the odds given for the bet.

7. The person with the most money at the end of the month takes 60% of the pot, second place gets 30% of the pot and third place takes 5% of the total prize money. 5% goes towards administration costs.

If I enough people interested in doing this then I will set up a section on the website which will record everything and let people place bets.

Thoughts and suggestions, positive and negative welcomed...

The odds would be taken from a set on-line bookie...Such as william hill, ladbrokes, racing post or some other such site where everyone will be able to see the odds.

As for Admin costs, Im hosting the club site at the moment and if I build this section, which Im happy to do, then it is not only going to take me a good week or so to get set up and fully working but will also reduce the amount of space I have for my own stuff...

Ill also have to spend time checking all the results to make sure there is no cheating going on as well as checking the odds for each bet placed.

Im more than happy to do it for nothing if the club is happy to pay the £5 a month hosting costs ?. Or better still, I happy not to pay to play or train each week and then Ill do it all for nothing...I dont mind either way to be honest.

So is anyone interested or shall I not bother. Just thought it might add a little excitment during the course of the week and some more banter on weekends...

Lovell 31/10/2007 11:01:07
OK...so so far people interested are :

Lovell
Steve
Brewski
Mikey
Clarkie

If we get another 5 interested then I will look in to setting it up over the next few nights and have it ready for next week.

If not enough people are interested then I probably wont bother.

Gearing is now added to the list so that makes 6, still a few more needed.

As for buying back in, You will only be able to buy back in in the first 10 days of the month IF you bank is sat at £0. The cost to buy back in will be a £5 but you will only be given a bank of £50 as it wouldnt be fair on the others who are doing well.

This is an option or shall we just stop any buy back ins.

Very good attitude there Brewski...

Ive done a little checking around and the book maker used to make the selection will be William Hills on-line site which is http://www.willhill.co.uk.

Reason for this is they have a very good historical results page which shows all the odds for the winning outcomes for the last month or so in numerous different sports.

Ive got to build the functionality to do it all yet. As soon as it is ready though I will let everyone know and the fun can begin...

Anyone know if anyone outside of the club would be interested in playing ?.

Lovell 31/10/2007 15:28:38
Its not confusing...I can build it so that only bets that have been completed get shown to everyone...Good idea there Goughie...

Lovell 31/10/2007 16:15:03
You would never be able to live with yourself and would probably end up giving all the money away if that happened to try to ease your guilt.

To get around this problem I would suggest that you share all your tips and we will leave them out of the competition so that everyone is able to benefit...

Everyone is a winner that way...but most importantly you will be able to enjoy your millions guilt free...This time next year Rodney...

Im in

Lovell 01/11/2007 14:20:54
Any bets you want to make will have to be taken from the William Hill website ( see further up the thread ) because this gives a history of all the results and the odds for those results which I will use to varify the bet you have made.

I will only be looking to varify winning bets which I will allocate the odds to based on what Will Hill had on offer.

Easy as that...
